Funzies Weekend

Fun fun fun in the sun. This past weekend was a blast. I had a great weekend packed full with activities. It was an ideal summer weekend; it was the kind that makes me grateful to be living in the city and just to be alive in general. Check it out below:

Friday

Date night with the bf after a long week. Woo hoo! Kevin took me to the IFC Center to see a movie we had been looking forward to seeing for a while, Buck. Buck is a documentary on the life of Buck Brannaman, “a horse whisperer” who endured an abusive childhood yet overcame and became a famous horse trainer. (The movie The Horse Whisperer was actually written with Brannaman in mind, and Brannaman even helped train Robert Redford and the horses on set. Yeah, he’s the real deal.) Buck is a great film, and I definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a good documentary. Don’t worry, it’s not hoaxy, Brannaman doesn’t actually whisper in horses ears. What he can get them to do without force is pretty amazing.

Before the film began though, of course I had to stop at Sweet Revenge to pick up a cupcake to eat during the movie. (I know what you’re thinking, she’s such a fatty! BUT if you’ve tried a cupcake from Sweet Revenge, you’d understand why it’s pretty much punishment to be within a close proximity to the shop without picking up a cupcake. It’s not like you have to eat the whole thing…although it’s so good you most likely will ;) I tried the Fleur de Sel cupcake this time around– Valrhona Chocolate Cake, Salted Caramel Center and Salted Caramel Buttercream with Pecans and Salted Caramel Drizzle. De-lic-ious!

After the movie we had dinner around the corner at one of my fav vegetarian spots, Red Bamboo. We split the Barbecue Buffalo Wings and Lobster Seafood Salad. I really like the BBQ Buffalo Wings at Red Bamboo because they are shaped like actual wings and instead of bone inside, it’s a stick, so it’s a really great imitation.

Saturday

Saturday I woke up early to go grocery shopping at Whole Foods to pick up the ingredients needed for a homemade brunch with Kevin and his cousin. On the way I stopped at Argo Tea for a yummy coconut bubble tea. For brunch Kevin’s grandma’s scone recipe was used which was special for him and his cousin. We  also made fruit salad and spinach and feta omelets. Needless to say, we were very full after.

Since it was such a nice day, we then made our way downtown to the Hester Street Fair where I got a cute peacock headband. From there we checked out the Mad Decent Block Party at Seaport. The music was good and it was packed. It kind of reminded me of college days. After a long day, I had a low-key night and stayed in, watched True Blood and went to bed early.

Sunday

Since I went to bed early the night before, I woke up early on Sunday morning. My boyfriend and I went to my favorite doughnut spot, Doughnut Plant where we split a Tres Leches, Banana Pecan and Blueberry Doughnut. They were

all delicious, particularly the Banana Pecan doughnut, and they were a great enticement to get out of bed and get the day started.

We then went to Home Depot. Yes, I went to Home Depot (Dad, I’m sure you’d find that amusing) to pick up a few apartment cleaning supplies. It actually wasn’t too bad. And I even found a really cute chandelier light that I now probably won’t stop thinking about until I get…:)

It was a great weekend! Stay tuned for the next post to read about the well-known place where I spent the rest of my Sunday…
