Easter 2015

Last Sunday was Easter. Last year Easter was around the same time as my birthday so I flew home to spend the weekend with my family, but this year they are much different times in Aprilso I spent Easter in NYC with Kevin, Pants and Boots since I’m flying home in July.

A lot of my co-workers left early on Friday to go home to be with their families, so luckily Friday wasn’t too busy at work and I got to leave early too. On Saturday Kevin and I had a chill day. We went to spin class at The Monster Cycle and then to dinner with friends followed by a movie. We saw Fast and Furious 7.

On Sunday morning we ordered bagels from our favorite spot, Brooklyn Bagels, then we went to spin class again at The Monster Cycle. After spin we got dressed for afternoon tea at the Pembroke Room at The Lowell. It wasn’t as grand as the afternoon teas I’m used to in having in London, but it was still a very pleasant afternoon.

After tea Kev and I walked around to do some shopping. Most of the stores were closed with it being Easter/Passover, but it was a nice day so it still felt good to be outside walking around.

Of course my favorite thing about Easter was the Easter basket I received from my parents. They spoil me and put SO much candy in my basket including: Easter M and Ms, Reese’s Pieces, Double Bubble gum, Jelly Belly jelly beans, Cadbury creme eggs, Skittles, Jolly Ranchers, and a Dairy Queen gift card. I was feeling pretty bummed over the weekend not being home with my family over Easter. They posted cute family pics and I felt really jealous/homesick/sad. It was very thoughtful that my parents still sent me a basket though.

Pants and Boots even had a little treat in my basket which I made sure to give them after forcing them to wear a little duck and bunny costume for the sake of pictures. It was totally worth it.

Even though I didn’t get to go home for Easter, I still had a good weekend with my little family in NYC.

27th Birthday and Puerto Rico Trip

The end of April I turned 27. Kevin was out of town for my actual birth day in the middle of the week, but he more than made up for it. I felt so much love from my co-workers, my parents, and even from Kevin from afar. My co-workers surprised me with some super cute, fun Lululemon yoga pants because they know I love working out and I like cute fitness gear. Kevin had gorgeous pink roses and chocolates delivered to my office and he sneakily coordinated with my co-workers to have them pick up my favorite ice cream cake from Dairy Queen. Even though my love wasn’t there, I still felt very special and I had a great day (although I was a little embarrassed by all of the attention).

Kevin and I also planned a little weekend getaway to celebrate. Since flying to Puerto Rico is such a short, easy trip, we took a long weekend and flew into San Juan. We stayed at the Wyndham Grand Rio Mar resort two years ago and really liked the resort, so we stayed there again. We had activities planned while we were there so I wanted to make sure we could relax and enjoy ourselves when we were lounging around the hotel.

My favorite thing about Wyndham PR is that there is a separate, quiet adult pool away from the screaming kids. We spent an entire day relaxing in the pool and I read a whole book, Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins (which is a really good mystery novel that I recommend), while drinking coconut rum and pineapple juice cocktails.

On our adventurous, activity days, on one of the days we went scuba diving. We dove with Sea Ventures Puerto Rico. We were on a boat with only one other diver and several snorkelers, but luckily they didn’t slow us down. We had two amazingly awesome dives. We saw stings rays, a manta, and several sea turtles. The sea turtles were my fav. We even spent a few minutes hanging out with one sea turtle that was taking a little rest on the bottom of the ocean floor. They are beautiful animals.

The next day wewent kayaking in the bioluminsescent bay, Bio Bay Laguna Grande Fajardo. I had been wanting to go since my visit two years ago. The first time we went to Puerto Rico we didn’t book in advance and every tour was full. The second time we were in Puerto Rico, last year, the bay apparently wasn’t glowing. Finally we were able to go this trip, and it was pretty awesome.

We kayaked about a mile through the canal to get to the bay. The coolest part wasn’t in the bay but in the canal while it was pitch black on the way back. It was kind of creepy with all of the sweeping mangrove trees, but it was absolutely amazing seeing the fish swimming beneath us looking like they were glowing blue. I have never seen anything like it. Well, in Australia we saw glowing mushrooms, but this was so much cooler because it was an actual moving animal.

Kevin and I had a blast on our three-day trip, and it was the perfect way to celebrate my birthday.

Check out some of the videos we took during our scuba and kayak adventures below.

Happy 33rd Birthday Kevin

Last Saturday was my boyfriend’s 33rd birthday. I planned a nice dinner with several of his closest friends and family living in NYC at Ai Fiori, an Italian restaurant with one Michelin Star.

It was my first time planning a fancy dinner for a group of people, but it was actually pretty fun. Even though I started calling restaurants about a month before his birthday, I was having a hard time finding a venue that could take a small party. Luckily our apartment concierge was able to help out and get us a reservation for a private dining roomat Ai Fiori.

I worked with the Ai Fiorievents coordinator on everything from the menu, menu heading, place cards, and a special birthday cake. I even had a custom cocktail created for the evening called “”The Weatherman.””
It was all of our first time dining at Ai Fiori. It was cool that we had a private room for our own little intimate party. Everyone really liked the food. I loved the wine, cocktails and dessert 🙂

Kevin had a really great time too which was the most important thing, so I would say that overall, the night was a success. Everyone at the table also had the opportunity to give a toast to Kevin, which at first I was nervous about because I hate talking in front of a group of people when all the attention is focused on me, but it ended up being a very special part of the evening. It was great hearing all the nice things that people had to say about Kevin.

Happy Birthday, Kevin! Cheers to another year of fun adventures in both your personal and professional life.
